FDI Eligibility Checker for Nepal

Check whether a foreign investment is allowed: sector, NPR 2 crore minimum, IT exemption, approving body and next steps.

How it works

Foreign investment in Nepal is allowed in sectors outside the negative list, generally with at least NPR 2 crore per investor — except nine IT and digital sectors exempted in 2026. The Department of Industry approves most projects (automatic route for 102 listed areas); Investment Board Nepal handles projects above NPR 6 arba.

= NPR 2 crore

Result

Likely eligible for FDI

  • Sector is open to foreign investment (confirm your exact activity code).
  • Minimum NPR 2 crore per investor applies — met.
  • Approval or automatic-route certificate from the Department of Industry (automatic route covers 102 listed industry areas).
  • Bring the money through banks and record it with Nepal Rastra Bank; dividends and sale proceeds can be repatriated later with NRB approval.

Based on FITTA 2075, the NPR 2 crore minimum (Nov 2022 notice), the 2026 IT exemption and the 16 Feb 2026 automatic-route list. Read the full FDI guide before transferring funds.
